As a partner, we put a lot of meaning into knowing/sharing partner numbers. This number could make you the hero when treating the kid‘s soccer team to a post game treat.
Or it could open doors for you when you needed to get into the SSC for your next meeting.
Or it put you in an honored era of “pre-Bean Stock” or “post-Bean Stock”.
I still remember my number... it’s quick to my mind whenever someone asks about my Partner days...

when we assigned partner numbers in 1986, the first two digits of your number tied to a letter of the alphabet. D's started at 12. So my number was 12100. Which is why some people who were there earlier had longer numbers than those who came later when the new payroll system was put in place.
I recently traveled to California and gave the partner my 4-digit partner number. He was so excited that he told his store manager she had to come out from the back and talk to me as he'd never seen a number that short. I explained it was really luck of the draw because people who'd been at the company before I arrived in 1991 had longer partner numbers. Still, I enjoy it when partners are fascinated by my short number!

Super early days for me.....HS hired me 3 weeks after he started! 1982.....5 digits long...took weeks to get a replacement if you lost it! Haha
Remember when it was also about how many digits? Mine was 6 digits and I remember being in awe of the much shorter numbers :)
